How Companies Use Artificial Intelligence

As we move deeper into the digital age, we find that more companies are using artificial intelligence to efficiently manage their businesses. Because of this, the demand for workers who know how to use and develop AI technology will only increase in the coming years.

How do companies use artificial intelligence? Let’s take a look at this exciting and growing field of artificial intelligence.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

Artificial intelligence (AI) encompasses a large range of computer abilities. It includes all computer software that has human-like intelligence. Four categories simply break down what AI software is able to mimic. This includes the following:

  • Thinks like a human
  • Thinks rationally by using logic and reasoning
  • Acts with human-like behavior
  • Acts rationally to achieve a certain outcome

Common Types of AI

There are four common types of AI. Two of these are currently in use, while the other two are theories to be explored. While we could go into much detail about how these types work and function, we will just take a look at a brief description of each.

1. Reactive AI

Reactive machines are the most basic type of AI. These machines perceive and then react to the world around them. They do not learn from experience nor form memories. A common example of this is a spam filter on your email.

2. Limited Memory AI

A slightly more complex type of AI is limited memory AI. It stores information like data and predictions to learn and make educated decisions. These get better over time through continued use. Self-driving cars use limited memory AI by using data it collects while being used. It also uses its sensors to make informed driving decisions to keep you safe.

3. Theory of Mind AI

This next type of AI is still just a theory but looks promising for future use. Theory of mind is a computer or machine’s ability to perceive another intelligent being’s emotions. It will then be able to adjust to these emotions and properly respond. There were two robots created that were a prototype of this type of AI. They were able to mimic facial expressions and recognize emotions in others.

4. Self-aware AI

Self-aware AI is the most sophisticated type of AI and has not yet been achieved. This type of AI technology would give a machine the same level of self-awareness as a human. It would also have needs, desires, and wants. Currently, we do not have the algorithms to create this type of AI.

HOW IS AI COMMONLY USED?

Many Ai applications use data and predictive analytics to help improve a user’s experience. This includes customers and companies alike. Here are a few examples of common AI application uses.

The most popular use of AI is in machine learning (ML). This is an extremely helpful branch of AI that many companies now use. Machine learning algorithms learn using previous data and statistical techniques to improve continually. In a company, this could look like a computer collecting company-wide data that is then used to better understand specific parts of the company. This helps data analysts perform their jobs more effectively.

Machine learning also uses facial recognition. This is through algorithms that learn how to recognize human faces. The future of facial recognition is in advertising, healthcare, and even airport security.

Another way companies use AI is in customer relationship management (CRM). These are AI-based programs that vary from project management to customer support. CRM programs help companies to self-update and auto-correct customer data. This leaves a much smaller margin of error and helps companies focus on more important areas of their business.

Cybersecurity is another excellent use of artificial intelligence. It is quick to recognize cyber threats and attacks because of how it monitors data input and patterns. A cybersecurity expert is only able to monitor so much internet traffic, but AI is able to analyze and respond to threats quickly.

You can’t go too far while surfing the web before you hear algorithms mentioned. These algorithms help companies sell their products and services to customers by analyzing web searches and traffic. These personalized recommendations entice customers to check out products by using past web search history.

Your smartphone most likely has an AI-powered virtual assistant. These use natural language processing to listen for voice commands and answer questions. Daily business processes moved to an AI virtual assistant can save time and money for companies that use them.

WHICH COMPANIES USE AI?

Artificial intelligence has quickly become an important part of providing customers with the best experience possible. Several companies lead the way in big data and for AI to become a regular part of businesses. Here are a few companies that use AI.

Uber

Uber uses AI to help its drivers find passengers as well as the most efficient routes. It also helps the company maintain safety processes, risk evaluation, and fraud detection.

Facebook

Machine learning is an important facet of Facebook. It helps personalize content by analyzing a user’s likes, location, as well as friend’s likes. Part of Facebook’s AI is DeepText and DeepFace. The first is able to understand the emotional content of users’ posts as they are posted in real-time. Then with DeepFace, they are able to quickly identify you in pictures posted by other users.

Netflix

Netflix’s algorithms are centered around AI. It is used to personalize and recommend movies and shows based on your past user history. AI also helps identify different users and can auto-generate user thumbnails.

Apple

When thinking about Apple, several AI technologies often come to mind. The most popular is Siri. Siri can activate AirPods, Apple watches, and HomePod. The iPhone also uses facial recognition in its FaceID feature.

Amazon

Like Apple, Amazon has its own AI personal assistant Alexa. When shopping on their site, they use AI to remember product searches and purchases to help personalize recommendations.

As we move further into the twenty-first century, AI becomes more linked with the job market. Getting familiar with AI technology and learning to use and create it opens a wide field of jobs.
