A 21st century workforce – [ARCHIVE]

The 21st-century workforce of tomorrow requires a 21st-century education today.

Stem labs everywhere

At 21st CentEd, a strong tomorrow is what we’re all about. We’ve been deeply invested in creating interactive STEM tools for kids for many years.

We have created a safe space where kids can learn and grow in a supportive and engaging environment. With innovative learning tools and self-paced lessons, students can learn at their own pace and according to their individual interests.

And our innovation doesn’t end there. We are always looking for new ways to improve our offerings and make our learning even more engaging. We hope you’ll join us.

Reframing the way we approach education

The prevalence of technology in our culture ensures that the work we’ll be doing tomorrow won’t look the same as the work we know today.

In order to be prepared to enter a workforce like that, our children today must be taught in a different way. By reframing the way we approach education and providing a more comprehensive, holistic approach to learning, students will be much better prepared to succeed in the jobs of tomorrow.

But this can only happen with early and consistent exposure to STEM skills. By exposing children to STEM learning early on, they have the benefit of being prepared for a world dominated by tech jobs. A student who is exposed to coding language at an early age, for example, will have that skill as part of a repertoire they can build upon throughout their education and career. It becomes much more a part of their life as opposed to a skill they must learn quickly in a small group of college courses.

Virtual STEM learning

80% of schools were unprepared to transition to distance learning when it became a necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic. What has been revealed since the crisis unfolded goes much deeper than just technical issues during Zoom classes. It’s revealed that teachers of today are really only able to scratch the surface when it comes to virtual STEM learning. With current curriculums based around standardized test scores, the focus is teaching to the test, not teaching mastery of a subject.

Mastery Learning

In the 21st-century workforce, having good test scores is only going to get students so far. What they need to succeed is to demonstrate mastery, not grades. Companies like Google are already expressing a preference for mastery over a degree. Many of the most famous innovators of our time are college dropouts who were self-taught in STEM and therefore able to achieve mastery without the need to sit in a classroom.

A 21st-century education today

Stem learning from all sides

A blended educational approach is required. One approach is to combine learning in and out of the classroom with support from after-school programs.

21stCentEd approaches STEM learning from all sides – giving students the chance to achieve mastery early on through engaging, self-paced, innovative STEM courses, and design thinking methods focused on 21st-century skills, content, and knowledge.

Students enrolled in 21sCentEd will build their digital portfolio of projects that speak more powerfully to their skills than a resume ever could. With these digital portfolios, students will be able to highlight their projects in a more compelling way than ever before and become more attractive to companies looking for employees with mastery level skills.
